Choosing this destination was not just about the stunning mountains and vibrant culture, but also about creating a unique and memorable experience for all of us to share together. We know that traveling to Colombia is asking a lot, and we are deeply grateful to each of you who is making the journey to be with us. Our Story

We met on January 6, 2022 — in hindsight, probably not the most ideal date in modern American history for a first date. But if nothing else, it made our anniversary impossible to forget. Early that night, Joseph asked Mike a seemingly innocent question: “Do you watch Housewives?” Mike, who had never watched anything on Bravo, confidently answered “Yes.” What he didn’t realize was that this was not small talk — it was an entrance exam. Joseph’s encyclopedic knowledge of every franchise quickly became very clear. Within minutes, Mike understood he had dramatically underestimated the situation. The bluff didn’t last long… but luckily, the chemistry did. At the time, we were both new to Chicago, each having lived here only a few months. Joseph was still settling in — furniture was optional at that stage — and we found ourselves building not just a relationship, but a life in a brand-new city together. We explored neighborhoods, discovered favorite restaurants, built lasting friendships, and slowly fell in love with both Chicago and each other. Everett, of course, needed time to evaluate Mike. He watched him pacing around the apartment, unsure what to make of someone who simply could not sit still. But Mike’s inability to relax turned out to be a huge win for Everett — countless walks to the lake later, they became inseparable. Since then, we’ve continued doing what we love most: grabbing dinner at a local restaurant to catch up on life, spending time with friends, traveling often, and exploring new places — always planning our next adventure. After countless not-so-subtle hints from Mike that he was ready to lock it down, Joseph made it official in May 2025. He absolutely nailed it. During one of our favorite rituals — walking Everett along the Chicago lakefront, with Everett splashing in the water at Oak Street Beach — Joseph asked the question. It was simple. It was perfect. It was us. From a bold Housewives bluff to building a home, a partnership, and a life together — we can’t wait to celebrate this next chapter with all of you.

Booking a house through a home-sharing app is a great way to have a comfortable, spacious place to stay at a good price. We recommend&nbsp;Airbnb&nbsp;or&nbsp;VRBO. Just be sure to choose a place in&nbsp;El Poblado, which is safe and close to our home base,&nbsp;Binn Hotel. Staying nearby makes it easy to join optional tours and get to the wedding venue on the big day!

Flying to Medellin 

Medellin has two airports. International flights fly into Jose Maria Cordova International Airport (MDE). Major U.S. airlines travel to Medellin from Miami (American Airlines), Houston (United Airlines) and Spirit (Ft. Lauderdale). Avianca is Colombia's major airline and has reliable flights to Medellin as well. You can also choose different airlines based in Latin America that will have connecting flights from the U.S to Medellin including Copa Airlines based in Panama. We often take a U.S. airline to Miami (Southwest, American or United) and fly to Medellin using Avianca, as it is usually cheaper to do so.

Once You Arrive in Medellín

You made it to beautiful Medellin, Colombia! After you get off the plane, you will be required to go through Colombian Immigration. Use the foreign visitor's line and have your passport ready. Once you get through immigration, grab any checked baggage and head to customs. This step is pretty simple. They will put all of your bags through an x-ray machine and you will be on your way.

Transportation from Airport 

We have contracted with Feel Medellin to provide transportation options from the airport to where you are staying. As the wedding day approaches, we will provide links to book your ride through Feel Medellin. Rideshare apps are safe in Medellin. It is recommended that you use Uber as it will require you to use a PIN number to confirm you are in the correct car and allows you to pay for the ride in US dollars. We do not recommend that you hail a taxi as they can sometimes be pushy and do not have layers of security that Uber provides. If you do so, please make sure that they are accredited with the airport. You can confirm this with the badge they are required to wear while at the airport. Most taxi drivers only speak Spanish and will want to be paid in Colombian Pesos.

The Long Tunnel

The airport is about a 30-45 minute drive to the El Poblado neighborhood, where we request you stay. Heads up - you will be going through the 5 mile long Tunel de Oriente, which is the second longest tunnel in Latin America. Once you get through the tunnel, have your cameras ready, the view into the Aburrá Valley is amazing!

Dress Code

Medellín is a vibrant and welcoming city, but it’s always smart to take basic precautions. Stick to well-known neighborhoods like El Poblado and Laureles, use reliable transportation such as rideshare apps or private shuttles, and avoid hailing taxis on the street. Keep an eye on your belongings, especially in crowded areas, and be discreet with phones, cameras, and jewelry. Use ATMs inside banks or shopping centers, and consider bottled water if you have a sensitive stomach. Stick to well-lit streets at night, travel with friends when possible, and trust your instincts—if something feels off, it’s okay to leave or change plans. We recommend you use Uber or shuttles through the hotels to get from place to place in Medellin.

It’s hearty and flavorful, usually served with rice, beans, ground meat, chorizo, fried egg, avocado, and plantains. ArepasCornmeal cakes that can be grilled, baked, or fried and stuffed with cheese, meat, or other fillings. Perfect for breakfast, a snack, or a light meal. EmpanadasFried or baked pastries filled with meat, cheese, or vegetables. They make a great street food snack and are perfect for tasting on the go. When should I arrive in Medellín?We recommend arriving at least a day or two before the wedding so you have time to settle in, adjust, and enjoy the city. We’ll be in Medellín from&nbsp;Sunday through the Saturday after our wedding, though we’ll be busy with wedding prep throughout the week! Let’s make it a vacation!If you’re able to take a longer trip, we highly recommend turning this into a week-long getaway. Medellín is an incredible city with so much to explore. Arriving&nbsp;Saturday or Sunday&nbsp;before the wedding and leaving the&nbsp;Saturday after&nbsp;will give you the best balance of wedding festivities and free time to enjoy the city. Just note: flights to the U.S. often depart early in the morning. Just here for the wedding?We completely understand that not everyone can take a full week away. If you’re joining us just for the wedding celebrations, we recommend arriving by&nbsp;Wednesday afternoon&nbsp;so you’ll be able to attend our welcome party that evening. For departures,&nbsp;Saturday morning&nbsp;is ideal—since Friday flights tend to be very early (and let’s be honest, after the reception you might not feel like catching a 5 a.m. flight!). Do I need a visa to travel to Colombia?Guests traveling from the U.S. do not need a visa for short stays. You will need a valid passport, which must be valid for at least&nbsp;six months after your travel dates. What airport should I fly into?The main airport is&nbsp;José María Córdova International Airport (MDE), about 45 minutes from Medellín’s city center. ﻿How do I get from the airport to the city?Taxis, private shuttles, and rideshare apps like&nbsp;Uber&nbsp;are available. We’ll also share more detailed transportation tips on the&nbsp;travel page. Where should I stay?We kindly ask that guests stay in the&nbsp;El Poblado&nbsp;neighborhood. It’s safe, lively, and has great hotel and Airbnb options. We’ve arranged booking codes for&nbsp;Binn Hotel&nbsp;and&nbsp;Novotel, both of which we know and recommend. The&nbsp;Binn Hotel&nbsp;will serve as our “home base” during the week. Tour shuttles will depart from here, and transportation to the wedding venue will also leave from this hotel. What’s the weather like?Medellín is known as the&nbsp;“City of Eternal Spring.”&nbsp;Expect warm days (70s–80s) and cooler evenings, with occasional showers. Is it safe to travel in Medellín?Yes! Medellín is a vibrant and welcoming city. Like any major city, it’s best to be mindful of your surroundings, but visitors generally find it safe and very friendly. What should I wear?We’ll share details about wedding attire as the date approaches. For exploring the city, think&nbsp;casual, comfortable clothing&nbsp;with light layers. A small umbrella or rain jacket is a good idea too. Can I drink the tap water?Yes—Medellín has clean, safe drinking water. If you have a sensitive stomach, you may prefer bottled water (which we usually do). What language is spoken?Spanish is the primary language. Many people in hotels, restaurants, and tourism services speak some English, but learning a few basic Spanish phrases will go a long way. Money &amp; PaymentsThe local currency is the&nbsp;Colombian Peso (COP). Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, and shops, but it’s a good idea to carry some pesos for markets, and smaller vendors. You can convert cash into Pesos at the airport when you arrive in Medellin. You can also find a better conversion if you check with your bank or use a currency exchange store in the US. Tipping is appreciated but not expected—rounding up or leaving 10% at restaurants is standard practice. Double check receipts as many restaurants will include gratuity. The dollar is strong compared to the Colombian Peso and you will be able to purchase items and meals pretty cheaply. Utilize a currency calculator to help you determine costs.
